Je Suis Charlie
Dear Mom and Dad,
I am in Annecy in France. I am okay but a lot is going on here in France. Two heavily armed men attacked the French newspaper Charlie Hebdo, killing 12 people, including the long-time editor and cartoonist. The newspaper has a history of publishing offensive content both to Muslims and others, and has depicted the Prophet Mohammed on multiple occasions recently. The attackers were dressed in black and their identities are unknown but one of the men shouted “Allahu Akbar," an Islamic phrase, meaning God is Great, at the scene. The attack occurred at the offices of Charlie Hebdo in the eleventh arrondissement, far away from where I live in the fifth arrondissement, which is on the other side of the Seine and across the city. I was shocked to hear the initial news and have learned a lot about the situation since I first learned about it. It has been all over the French news and is being called a terrorist attack. It is the deadliest terror attack in France in decades and authorities are searching for the people behind this. Don’t worry, Mom and Dad, I will be okay.
From,
Miles
